Will the Corvette Receive Round Tails?

I was just skimming over Autoblog and decided to watch the Autoline video on the importance of automotive design cues, towards the end (the 3:02 mark) the guy says that Chevy will probably revise the tail lights on the new Stingray back to round lamps. I personally think he's off his rocker and there's not a chance that we'll see round lamps on the C7 from the factory. I understand the round tail lights are a significant part of Corvette history, but a change in their design is not unprecedented: see the square tails on the C4, the ovals on the C5, or even the long single lamps on the C1 (as was mentioned in the video).

There's still two pairs of tail lights across the back, just as there has always been. Why would GM alter an incredibly functional and sophisticated design just for some old guys that like circles? Maybe I'm crazy, but I'm of the crowd that likes the new Vette in every way - including the revised tail lights. What say you Oppo, has this automotive analyst lost his mind thinking Chevy will go back on their design decision, or could he be right?

I agree. Round taillights wouldn't fit with the rest of the design at all.

Honestly, Chevy engineers probably consider the existing taillight "round". They're not circles, but they don't have sharp corners on them. Someone in the office probably pats themselves on the back for making sure the Corvette's taillights were "round enough".

Yeah, I've seen that. Not a fan honestly. That design doesn't even take into account the ducting that exits there - that is a Z51 model there after all.

To me I think their main goal is to keep the two and two lamp design, as long as there are two lights on either side they can be ovals, squares, circles, or whatever they are now. Definitely "round enough" haha

I've thought this since day one. In a couple years there will be a refresh with round(er) tail lights. It's what the people want, and is so far the only criticism of the car I've heard.

I bet Ferrari could find a way to make it work.
